Apart Research is looking for a Research Project Manager (part-time/full-time, remote, global) for Apart Lab, its remote-first AI safety research fellowship. Deadline for applications: Thursday, April 4th, 2024, EOD AOE.

About Apart Research and Apart Lab

Apart Research’s mission is to ensure that the changes brought about by artificial intelligence happen safely and to the benefit of everyone.

Apart Lab is our remote-first AI safety research fellowship for training a global community of researchers and producing foundational research to mitigate risks and reap benefits from advanced AI.

Role Overview

You will manage and mentor globally distributed AI safety research teams.

  • Lead weekly team check-ins and keep our teams on track
  • Help our teams prioritize and provide feedback on ideas/drafts
  • Co-author impactful, peer-reviewed AI safety publications

Other things you might do: assist with literature reviews, grant writing, data analysis & visualization, community engagement; initiate cross-team collaboration; establish new methodologies and processes within Apart Lab.

  • you are proactive, reliable, and productive in remote-first environments
  • you are able to regularly meet with a subset of our researchers located in time-zones between UTC-8 and UTC+2

  • Experience with academic ML research to effectively support upcoming researchers
  • Solid understanding of one of our focus areas: model evaluation, interpretability, cyber-security, multi-agent security

What is the time commitment?

We are open to a range of options, from 16 hours per week to full-time. You will have considerable discretion over when you do your work, but we expect you to adapt to the needs of our research teams. This will likely mean some non-standard hours due to the globally distributed nature of our research collaborations.

What experience levels are you considering?

We are open to all experience level, as long as the requirements above are satisfied. In case of doubt, please apply!

When should I apply?

What does the process look like?

After initial screening of your application, we will schedule a brief first interview to understand your motivation for the role. Next, we ask you for a short (<60min) work test. Finally, we invite you to a longer interview with several team members.

What is the compensation?

We will adapt compensation to your experience level. As an early-stage non-profit, we expect to start with $25-$40 per hour but aim to move to higher rates as fast as possible.
