Role Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Research Communications Specialist to enhance the impact and visibility of our AI safety research through expert writing, visualization, and strategic dissemination. In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with research teams to ensure highest standards of writing and narrative quality, as well as high-quality visual content for our research outputs.
  • Take charge of our blog and social media channels, creating engaging posts and threads that amplify our research and its significance.
  • Transfer your science communication skills to our researchers by direct feedback as well as by hosting internal upskilling sessions.
  • Develop strategies to amplify the impact of our activities by ensuring their visibility to, and meaningful engagement by, key stakeholders (including researchers and AI organizations).
  • Ensure our web presence — its structure, content, and design — is of the highest quality.

You are a great fit for this role if you

  • Excel in writing, editing, and producing visual content that meets the highest standards of scientific communication.
  • Have a proven track record in developing effective dissemination strategies across various media platforms.
  • Can foster strong relationships with key stakeholders in the research, tech, and media communities.
  • Are adept at translating complex research into accessible, engaging outputs for both specialized and general audiences.
  • Thrive in a remote-first, async work environment and are adept at collaborating across multiple time zones.

Valued Extras

  • Experience in managing social media accounts and creating viral content.
  • Experience with web design in general or Webflow in particular.
  • Strong portfolio in science communication, particularly within AI or tech-related fields.
  • Passionate about AI safety and enthusiastic about the potential to enable meaningful engagement with experts and the general public.

What is the time commitment?

We are open to both full-time and part-time arrangements. You will be able to work largely on your own schedule, but we expect you to show some flexibility to the needs of our global research teams.

What experience levels are we looking for?

We welcome candidates with various levels of experience who demonstrate a robust capability in research communication and a strong interest in AI safety.

What does the application process look like?

After initial screening of your application, we will schedule a brief first interview to understand your motivation for the role and your background. Next, we will ask you to complete a short work test. Finally, we will invite you to a longer interview with several team members to discuss your experience and vision for the role in more detail.

What is the compensation?

As an early-stage non-profit, we expect the pay to be from $25 to $40 per hour depending on experience and location.
