Autostructures: interfaces not between humans and AI, but between humans *via* AI

Join us for creating for the near future where our infrastructure is embedded with realistic levels of intelligence (i.e., only mildly creative but widely adopted) yet full of novel, wild design paradigms anyway.

Join us for a unique hackathon exploring "autosuctures" - a new paradigm for AI-based interfaces that goes beyond just adding chatbots to existing systems. We're creating for a near future where infrastructure is embedded with realistic levels of intelligence.

Key Focus Areas:

Post-formal Design: Moving beyond rigid, pre-formed protocols to enable fluid, context-sensitive structures

Just-in-time Interfacing: Creating systems that generate tailored interfaces on-demand

Wish-based Interaction: Developing interfaces that respond to "prayers" (contextual hints) rather than fixed commands

Human-to-Human via AI: Focusing on how humans can better interact with each other through AI as infrastructure

Cultural Evolution: Building new design philosophies for the age of ubiquitous AI

Prize: $250 USD for the best submission that embodies autostructuring principles.

Watch the Keynote! We kicked off with an illuminating keynote that sets the foundation for understanding autostructures. The talk:

Introduces the key shift from "cookie-cutter scaling" to "attentive scaling"

Demonstrates how we can move beyond simply adding chatbots to existing systems

Provides concrete examples like website prompts that combine user preferences to generate tailored interfaces

Explains the crucial distinction between client-side and server-side prompts

Shows how "prayers" (contextual hints) can replace rigid protocols in future interfaces

The keynote is especially valuable for:

Understanding why we ban chatbot interfaces at this hackathon

Seeing how to design for the "middle period" of AI development

Learning to think in terms of potential-to-potential rather than just peer-to-peer

Grasping how to create wholesome, non-frustrating interfaces that avoid hyper-personalization traps

Watch the keynote to shift your thinking from traditional interface design to the new paradigm of autostructuring. It will help you avoid common pitfalls and inspire you to create something truly innovative for the hackathon

What We're Not Looking For:

Simple chatbot interfaces

"Talk-to-your-X" applications

AI features tacked onto existing systems

AGI-dependent solutions

Endless generative content spam

Who Should Participate:

Interface designers ready to challenge conventional paradigms

Engineers interested in fluid, context-sensitive systems

Researchers exploring AI alignment and safety

Anyone excited about reimagining human-AI-human interaction

Those who see beyond both doomerism and techno-optimism

People interested in subtle, meaningful interaction design
